Peek-a-Boo!

A little distracted by the camera but Eloise loves to play peek-a-boo. The funniest is when she lifts something over her face to hide but you can still see her face. I'm already forgetting when...but sometime in the past month I gave her a towel and asked if she could do peek-a-boo and she just did it. She's really been trying to imitate things. Another funny one was hair brushing. I brushed her hair and my hair and then gave her the brush and she tried to brush with it. But for some reason the wave is not sticking!

PS-It was really bright behind Eloise so the video quality is not that great...

Sum-sum-summer Time

This happens every year, suddenly it's the end of August, the state fair is starting, labor day is right around the corner and even though I've been done with school for EIGHT years, I still get that weird back to school feeling. I think the word "bittersweet" sums it up. I absolutely love fall, it's my favorite season, but there is something sad about summer ending. The other weekend Tom and I were able to sneak out of town alone for the first time since Eloise's arrival. It was absolutely wonderful. We officially decided where to go friday night and left saturday morning. My parents happened to have a free weekend in which they could enjoy every second with Eloise (and vice versa). We went to a place just outside of Two Harbors, MN and stayed on Lake Superior. Aaaaah, so beautiful and so refreshing. We had no major plans besides trying to unwind a little bit. I think relaxation hit while I was reading a book, listening to the waves of lake superior, and enjoying a glass of wine. That is a trifecta of goodness in my world (it doesn't take much these days people!).

A sunny view of lovely Lake Superior from our room.

A quick rain shower on its way.

Back to sun...and an awful self-portrait. So awful that it makes me laugh and I wanted to put it on here. One, it was so bright that I could barely keep my eyes open. Two, we got massages so my hair is beyond greasy. And three, what is that one strand of hair that is sticking straight up?

We walked around Gooseberry Falls and went on a bike ride starting from there too. This is what we do when it's just the two of us, self-portraits...

...and solo shots

The scenery never fails here.

My parents had a fab time with Eloise. It was so reassuring knowing that she was going to have a great weekend too. Thanks again mom and dad! We brought over a ridiculous amount of "baby stuff" to their house. I wrote pages of notes for my mom. On the way out the door (literally as the door was shutting) I remembered to yell out "oh yeah, Parker eats a cup of food a day!" Poor dog. I'm glad we remembered to even bring him...kidding, but my how times have changed.

My dad took these photos and I adore them.

Eloise is now doing about 50% crawling and 50% creeping. She crawls on unfamiliar territory, like grass and playground rocks. I took her to a little playground in our neighborhood and we actually played with more than just a swing ride, very exciting. Although I was watching her like a hawk to make sure she didn't try to eat any little rocks.

Just because I have no other photo for in between paragraphs...

Still no teeth but I do believe Eloise has had some gum pains lately. She was notably crabby for a few days. All babies cry and whine, including Eloise, but for the most part I would describe her as very happy. But when she had her crabby pants on it made for some looong days. We're still not sure exactly why but Eloise puked last Saturday, just one time, one hurl if you will. Poor Grandma Leisa got the brunt of it. However, Eloise was fine that night and the next day. I'm posting some photos of Leisa and Eloise during happier times to erase the vomit memory :) She didn't eat anything new and wasn't otherwise sick so maybe a side effect of teething?

And just some other random items.

Eloise was feeding Parker and laughing when he licked her fingers. I AM thankful for a dog that eats everything dropped on the floor. A lot of food goes overboard and it's nice to have one less thing to clean!

Eloise and Brayden playing in the pool. It held their attention for a surprising amount of time. I love these little swim shirts that have SPF in them. Less sunscreen to apply is a major bonus. Baby swim suits are to-die-for cute but these are so practical.

Who's teething??

A master piece in the works.

Please don't disturb me while I create.

Can you see what this says? It's an offer for a credit card addressed to Eloise Thompson! I wonder how much she would be approved for?

Ellie and Daddy.

Hopefully I have an update on our house "project" very soon...somehow these things always take longer than planned.

9 Months of Fun

I like to say that Eloise has personality plus. Seriously, get a load of this kid.

Do we really have a 9 month old? These photos are getting harder and harder to take. I can't keep Eloise in one place for very long.

This was the best photo...

Things unraveled quickly after that.

She had a great 9 month doctor appointment. The best part was NO shots! She also got glowing reviews from the doc who commented that she was very healthy and he could tell that she already has good self confidence. I thought that was an interesting comment. Really, he could tell that? She's only 9 months, she could still go through bouts of low self confidence, which I hope not, but this is a lot of pressure now...

Her 9 month stats:
Height: 29 and 1/8 inches, 90-95th percentile
Weight: 18lbs 4oz, 50th percentile

Check out that long leg!

The latest updates on Miss Eloise. She continues to pull up to stand anywhere and everywhere. It's her favorite thing to do. She is crawling on her knees a tiny bit but her commando crawl still gets her where she needs to go and FAST. She talks all the time. No real official words but lots and lots of babbling. I think she has her own words for things. My mom read somewhere that at first babies may use Dada for both mom and dad. Maybe she is trying to make me feel better. When I played a video of herself for her on our computer she went crazy! She loves watching herself on screen and talks back.

Very busy playing and standing. She's not a super chubby baby but she still has some squeezable chub on her baby thighs. I love it!

Eating is going pretty well. We're still spoon feeding her baby food and then giving her little pieces of food to feed herself. She doesn't eat very much when she self-feeds but Parker gets a lot of "treats" that end up on the floor. She's also started to really drink from her sippy cup. I'm still offering her a bottle before naps and bedtime. Our doctor recommends being off the bottle by 15 months so we still have some time there...man, I feel like we just got ON a bottle and now I already have to think about phasing it out?! I'm always worried that she's not eating enough or drinking enough but she lets us know when she's full and she usually has 2-3 dirty diapers a day. Gross, right? The doc said this is totally normal...yippee.

Eloise loves to play and loves it even more when we play with her. She likes peek-a-boo and one of her favorite ways to play is with the curtains in her room. This is a hilarious game for her.

She's still pointing at everything with her little pointer fingers. She likes to put her pointer fingers into the little holes in some of her books. Flipping the pages of books is probably ranked second among favorite activities (standing being number one). Opening drawers and cabinet doors is also a must-do activity. I think she tries to clap but her hands go up and down and kind of hit each other. Sometimes she accidentally hits her own face, that's not fun. When she's really excited or tired (or both) she shakes her head back and forth and yells. The description doesn't do it justice, it's pretty funny.

The Eloise version of clapping.

My parents gave her a little birdhouse that she has lots of fun with. It's meant for 9 month olds, lots of bright colors and crazy patterns as well as big soft birds that can go in her mouth (but of course). She's figuring out how to get the birds in and out of the birdhouse. I think she understands when we ask her to get the birds out. As you can see in the video, she babbles A LOT! (The video is loaded but for some reason I keep getting an error at this time so maybe it will work itself out in a day or so....otherwise sorry, it was a cute Eloise movie)

Sleeping is going pretty well. On average she sleeps from 7-7 and takes two naps during the day, usually about 1.5 hours each. I'd say that she will randomly wake up 1-2 nights every 2 weeks. Or it seems like as soon as I think, wow, she's really been sleeping great lately, she wakes up that night. Literally, I almost said it to Tom the other night and decided not to jinx myself and not mention it. Sure enough, she woke up that night! Overall, I think she's a decent sleeper though. Oh and no teeth yet! They are there though...the doctor confirmed it. Maybe we'll see them by the end of this month.

And just because...

That's all for now folks!
